Experience the partial solar eclipse at 2,262 metres above sea level – combined with a delicious dinner and breathtaking views over the mountain landscape of the Seven Churfirsten.
On Wednesday, 12. August 2026, you can witness a partial solar eclipse on the Chäserrugg. The evening combines this impressive celestial event with a culinary experience at the Chäserrugg Summit Restaurant.
In the evening, the funicular will take you from Unterwasser to Iltios, followed by the cable car to the summit of the Chäserrugg. From 18.00 a delicious three-course dinner awaits you at the Summit Restaurant, with views of over 500 mountain peaks. It is recommended that you start your dinner by 19.30 at the latest.
The Moment of the Solar Eclipse
Between 20.00 and 20.40, you will take a break to watch the natural spectacle from outside. On the Rosenboden plateau or from the Hinterrugg, you can follow the solar eclipse amidst the unique atmosphere of the high-alpine landscape. Glasses for safely observing the solar eclipse will be provided on site at the summit.
After this impressive evening, the cable car and funicular will take you back down to the Valley Station.
For your time outdoors, we recommend sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather. The ascent is available exclusively to guests who have booked dinner.

Frequently asked questions about the Solar Eclipse at Chäserrugg
The ticket price includes a return journey from Unterwasser via Iltios to Chäserrugg, a three-course dinner at the Summit Restaurant, and solar eclipse glasses. Children and teenagers aged 6 to 15 years only need the train ticket and can dine à la carte on site.
As this is a special service, only guests who have booked dinner will be transported by the railways.
The partial solar eclipse will be visible on Wednesday, 12. August 2026. This natural spectacle will take place between 20.00 and 20.40. The cable car will run for dinner guests until 18.00, with the last descent at 22.30.
The Chäserrugg area can be reached from Zurich and the Lake Constance region in around 60 minutes. By train, travel from Zurich via Rapperswil to Wattwil, then continue by PostBus to Unterwasser. From St. Gallen, take the train to Wattwil or Nesslau and change to the PostBus there. By car, you can reach the Unterwasser Valley Station via the A1, taking the Wil exit via Wattwil, or via the A13, taking the Haag exit via Wildhaus. Paid parking is available directly at the Valley Station.

We recommend wearing sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather – it can get chilly on the summit in the evenings, even in August. Solar eclipse glasses are included in the ticket price.
The event will go ahead whatever the weather. The three-course dinner at the Chäserrugg Summit Restaurant is not affected by the weather and takes place within the award-winning architecture designed by Herzog & de Meuron. Viewing the solar eclipse outdoors on the Rosenboden Plateau is, of course, subject to visibility. Appropriate clothing for the weather is recommended for the time spent outdoors.
