A day of walking in the Chaeserrugg region: a true back-to-nature experience, with not a hint of Alpine chic in sight.

A ski day in the Chaeserrugg region: a scenic sporting experience

The entrance to the legendary Ostabfahrt (Eastern Descent) can be accessed directly from the summit of the Chaeserrugg. There, hobby skiers will find an ample, all-natural descent through pristine nature that runs 5.2 km downwards through Alpine meadows and forests to end directly at the valley station of the new ten-car Espel-Stoefeli-Chäserrugg cable car. The new Stoefeli cable car replaces 2 historic lifts and represents a remarkable blend of functionality and aesthetic elegance in a valuable area of natural beauty, while the Herzog & Meuron-designed stations represent the sensitive and thoughtful integration of technology into the Toggenburg mountain landscape. On your journey from Espel to the Chaeserrugg via Stoefeli, you’ll enjoy astonishing views of the Churfirsten mountain range, Lake Schwendi (Schwendisee) and the expanse of the high valley. With the Stoefeli cable car, the journey becomes the destination.
